Why your website is slow on mobile — and what to fix first

Most business websites in India are tested on office Wi-Fi and used on mobile data. That gap is where the problem lives.
Images are almost always the cause
A single uncompressed photograph from a phone camera can be four megabytes. A page with six of them is unusable on a weak connection. Compressing images and serving them at the size they actually display usually fixes more than every other change combined.
Too many plugins
On WordPress sites, plugins accumulate. Each one adds scripts and styles to every page, including pages that do not use it. A site with thirty active plugins is carrying most of that weight on every single load.
Cheap shared hosting
If the server takes two seconds to respond before a single image starts loading, no amount of front-end optimisation will save the page. Check server response time separately from page load time — they are different problems.
Fonts and third-party scripts
Chat widgets, analytics, tracking pixels and font files each add a request. Individually small, collectively significant.
How to check honestly
Test on mobile data, not Wi-Fi, on a mid-range phone rather than a new one. That is what your customers are using. Tools that report a score are useful, but the real test is opening your own site on your own phone outside the office.
